What to Do When your Commercial Washer Will Not Turn On

appliance repair technicianA broken washing machine can cause your laundromat to lose money, so it is imperative to get to the bottom of the issue as soon as possible. If your washer suddenly does not turn on, there are four possible solutions:

Power – The first thing you should do is make sure that power is getting to your washing machine. Use a multimeter to check the voltage of the outlet. If there is no electricity flowing into the washing machine, check to make sure your circuit breakers aren’t tripped.

Lid Switch – Your washing machine is designed to shut off when the lid is open. There is a special plastic piece under the lid that lets the washer know when the lid is shut properly. If your washing machine will not turn on, there is a chance your lid switch is broken.

Motor – If your washing machine’s motor is overheated, it will switch off to cool down. If this is happening frequently, you may need to seek a replacement or have the motor repaired.

Timer Knob – For some models, a timer knob that is out of alignment can throw off the whole machine. You can test this by adjusting the time on the washer and trying to restart it.
